Ray Robins

Ray started with Bioela Little Athletics in 1987 after his children brought home a flyer and were keen to join the Centre. He became Centre Manager in 1988 and held the position for 24 years before stepping down from the role in 2012.

He was instrumental in guiding the Centre over many years. He developed the Centre Handbook and a computer program for the Centre’s nominations and results.

He was awarded Life Membership of Biloela Little Athletics in 1994.

Ray was heavily involved at Zone (Regional) level, taking on the role of Arena Manager in 1986, 1993 and 1998 and was also their Track Referee over many years.

Ray became heavily involved with QLAA (now LAQ) in 1993 when he was appointed as the Manager for the Central Queensland Zone. This role saw Ray travelling to many Centres in Central Queensland representing LAQ and participating in coaching clinics and Centre development seminars. He was also the person Centres would contact if they were having difficulties and needed help.

He was also a regular at QLAA Conferences, representing Biloela, and often encouraging committees from other Centres around the Central Queensland Region to attend as well.

Ray was bestowed LAQ Life Membership in 2007.

Ray was also the recipient of the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and the Australia Day Sports Medal in 2005.

In 2014, Ray was honoured by Biloela State High School by naming their sports over the ‘Ray Robins Oval’ for his service and commitment to the High School community.

Ray has retired and still lives in Biloela. While he is not involved with the Little Athletics Centre anymore, he does still enjoy helping out the local schools with their carnivals and coaching some of the young athletes at school and around town. Swimming is also a great passion of Ray’s and he is heavily involved in the town’s local swimming club.
