Little Athletics Australia provides an exciting opportunity for athletes in the Under 15 age group with the National U15 Camp.
This is a live in elite camp and is a great opportunity to improve athletic skills by providing elite coaching and active participation in athletics. Being held at the AIS in Canberra means athletes can take full advantage of the world class facilities on offer. Each day will consist of coaching sessions to enhance performance in chosen events and improve general fitness. Workshops will be held on various topics such as strength and conditioning and stretching and there will also be guest appearances by senior elite athletes.
The aim of the camp is to develop and support young athletes who are showing a commitment to the sport and have reached national standard. Not only will athletes receive expert advice from some of the very best coaches from around Australia, it will be a fun and exciting time, and a chance for athletes to make new friends from all over the country.
The camp is open to selected athletes in the U15 age group in the 2020 / 2021 Little Athletics season, who have met a qualifying standard set by Little Athletics Australia. Previously, this qualifying standard was based on the top 3 results nationally in each event. Athletes were ranked from 1st to last and the top 3 athletes from each event were invited to attend. In 2020, due to the cancellation of the majority of the State Track and Field Championships, LAA has had to re-examine and change the selection process for the 2020 Camp and the standards are based on the average for the last three years of the camp. LAQ will nominate athletes based on the qualifying standards page from the Regional Championships. If an athlete was unable to compete at their Regional Championships, they can notify LAQ and a nomination can be forwarded on their behalf for consideration.

Combined Event Athletes
Combined Event athletes from each State will be nominated based on their placing at the Combined Event Championships as an U14 athlete.
Multi Class Athletes
In 2020, Multi Class athletes will be invited to nominate for camp selection. LAA will consider nominations from the Under 13 to Under 15 age groups inclusive. A nomination form needs to be completed and returned to LAQ by the 8th of May.
Multi class athletes need to be registered with a Little Athletics Centre for the 2020/2021 season prior to the camp. They need to be either formally classified by a recognised organisation prior to being considered for the camp OR in the process of seeking classification to the satisfaction of LAA PRIOR to the camp.
Athletes with the following classifications are eligible to nominate for the camp:
• T/F 01 – Hearing Impairment
• T/F 11-13 – Visual Impairment
• T/F 20 – Intellectual Impairment
• T31-54 & 61-64; F31-57 & 61-64 – Physical Impairment
• T/F 60 – Transplant Athletes
Ideally, Multi Class athletes will have competed at their Regional or State Championships in the year prior to camp. This will be subject to exemption in the case of injury, exceptional circumstances that meant they weren’t able to compete or the events in which the athlete is considered to have potential were not offered at Regional or State Championships.
It is worth noting that the selection of ALL athletes will be at the discretion of Little Athletics Australia and LAQ has no involvement or input into the selection of athletes from our State.
The 2020 camp was scheduled to take place from the 4th – 7th October 2020 at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra. However, due to changing State and Federal Government COVID-19 restrictions, Little Athletics Australia have made the decision to POSTPONE the 2020 Camp, to be held either in late 2020 or early 2021. A new date will be advised as soon as possible.
Congratulations to the 18 LAQ athletes who have been selected for this year’s camp. Click here to see the athletes and their events.
