Andrea Harvey

Andrea joined Kenmore Little Athletics with her husband George and 3 children in 1975. They were one of the founding families of the Club (now Centre). She became the Centre Recorder and Chief Recorder at Zone carnivals over many years. Andrea also coached athletes in the Jumps disciplines.

Andrea’s experience as a recorder saw her appointed as the State recorder LAQ competitions for many years. This then lead to her appointment as the Records Officer for Australian Little Athletics Union (now Little Athletics Australia) at the Interstate Teams Championships (now Australian Little Athletics Championships) for a number of years, concluding in 1994.

She was awarded Life Membership at Kenmore Centre in in the late 1980’s. After this, Andrea left the Centre to take up the role as LAQ Secretary. She held this role until retiring in 2001. She also held the position of Acting General Manager for the Association for a short period of time.

Andrea’s administration knowledge was second to none and her understanding of the Constitutions was invaluable to all Centre Committees. She would keep Centre’s up to date with what was necessary to run a successful Centre. Andrea’s service and expertise in the administration of LAQ saw our State Administration Award named in her honour.

Andrea was also a member of the Australian Society of Sports Administrators and in 1996, she was elevated to ‘Fellow’ status within the Queensland branch.

For her commitment and dedication to Little Athletics, Andrea was awarded LAQ Life Membership 2001. She also received an Australian Sports Medal, and was inducted into the LAA Hall of Fame in the Volunteer category in 2013.

Reading, catching up with family and doing the family tree keeps Andrea busy now, but she still finds time in keeping abreast of what is happening to the sport that was a large part of her life over many years. Andrea is thankful for the many friendships that were made within the Little Athletics family.
