Eddie Fabian

Eddie joined Balmoral Centre in 1990 with his three daughters and served on their committee from 1991 to 2000. He held a number of positions during this time, including Centre Manager, Treasurer and General Committee member.

Eddie is a passionate throws coach. He was the throws coach at Balmoral from 1992 until 2021. He was also a regular coach LAQ’s coaching camps held in Warwick, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane from 1994 until 2017. As well as these camps, Eddie was also a coach at numerous LAQ coaching clinics throughout the State. Outside of Little Athletics, Eddie also coached at Loreto College for 25 years and has been President of Thompson Estate Eastern Suburbs Athletic Club since 2008.

In 2000, Eddie was elected to the LAQ Board of Management (now Board of Directors) in the role of Finance Director. He served on the Board for 11 years and was instrumental in setting up many of the LAQ finance structures that we have still have today.

Eddie served in a number of positions at Zone level including Zone Coordinator for two years. He has been a key official for LAQ over many years in various roles, including Field Referee, Arena Manager and has been in the role of Competition Manager since 1996.

In 2008, Eddie joined the LAQ Competition Committee and has been reviewing and updating the LAQ competition programs since the late 1990’s, even before becoming part of the committee.
Eddie was on the Board of Little Athletics Australia as Finance Director from 2011 to 2017. During his time on the LAA Board, Eddie was a member of the Age Group Working Party and the Constitution Review Group. Eddie was invaluable as the LAA Finance Director and was integral in streamlining finance and administration practices for LAA.

Eddie has been a committed official for LAQ for over 20 years and is involved at all levels of our sport, from Centre to Regional, State, National and International level competitions. Beyond Little Athletics, Eddie has been involved with Queensland Athletics and Athletics Australia as an official and has officiated numerous state, national and international championship events. His highlights include officiating and the 2006 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2021 World Cross Country Championships.

His contribution as an official is not just seen on the competition arena. Eddie spends countless hours behind the scenes ensuring each LAQ competition program is adapted to suit the number of athletes and officials.

Eddie has been retired from work for almost two years now and is playing mid week golf, officiating at school athletics competitions and running Parkruns when time permits. He is still very actively involved in Little Athletics. He coaches weekly at Balmoral, is an active official at all LAQ competitions around the State as Competition Manager and is still a valued member of the LAQ Competition Committee.

Eddie has been rewarded with many honours and awards for his service, dedication and contribution to Little Athletics and to athletics in general. These include:

His most recent achievement was being inducted into the Little Athletics Australia Hall of Fame in the Volunteer category in April 2024. A truly deserving recipient, who is well liked, respected and admired by those around him.

Eddie has been a tremendous servant to Little Athletics for over 30 years and hopes to remain actively involved for many years to come.
