COLES WINTER CARNIVAL
Get ready for one of the most exciting events on the Little Athletics Queensland calendar! The Coles Winter Carnival heads to the stunning Townsville Sports Precinct for a huge weekend of competition, colour and Club pride.
Held on a premier all-weather track, this Carnival brings together LAQ registered athletes and non-LAQ athletes from across Queensland for two action-packed days of athletics, celebrating participation, performance, and community across all levels.
What Makes the Winter Carnival Special?
The 100m
Gift Races
A Carnival favourite! U9–U17 winners earn the opportunity to compete in a thrilling handicapped 100m Gift Race, with starting marks based on each athlete’s 100m time. It’s fast, exciting and anyone can take the win on the day!
March
Past
Club pride takes club stage! Athletes are encouraged to step forward with their teammates, mascots and banners to showcase their spirit in the traditional March Past.
Competition Club Weighted Points Trophy
Every performance counts. LAQ Club athletes earn points through their results across the weekend, all contributing toward the prestigious Club Weighted Points Trophy. Teamwork, consistency and participation are key!

Eligibility
- LAQ registered athletes, including Multi-Class
- Non-LAQ registered athletes
- Age Groups: U7 – U17 (age calculated as at 31 December)
- Multi-Class athletes may nominate in Multi-Class or Standard events. For further details on Multi-Class athlete participation and rules click below
Key Information
Event Limits
- Maximum of seven (7) individual events per athlete (where offered).
- U15–U17 athletes may nominate in the Heptathlon plus two (2) individual events.
Nomination Fee
- $22.50 per athlete
Uniform Requirements
- LAQ registered athletes must wear their approved LAQ Club uniform to enter the competition arena.
- Non-LAQ athletes must comply with the LAQ Uniform Policy to enter the competition arena.
