FAQS
What can we help you with?
Who can participate in Little Athletics?
Children between the ages of 5 and 17 years can register. Some Centres in Queensland run a Tiny Tots Program which starts at 3 years. Parents, grandparents and friends can also be involved by helping with the various events.
At what time of year does Little Athletics take place?
Little Athletics Queensland has a winter season and a summer season but Centres do not operate in both seasons. The winter season runs from February – September and all Centres in the Northern Queensland, Maranoa area and North Queensland operate during these months. Our summer season runs from August – March and all Centres in the Metro Brisbane Area, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Central Coast area operate during these months.
Where will my child be participating?
Your child will be participating at your local Little Athletics Centre. Our Centres may compete at different times of the day/week and we recommend that you contact the Centre to discuss specific details.
What events are offered?
Events offered at a Centre competition are dependent on the athlete’s age and the Centre program for that week. Some events have age restrictions on them.
What level of ability do children have to be to join?
Our emphasis is on Family, Fun & Fitness. Children can join with any level of skill or fitness. Children are given plenty of encouragement to achieve personal bests (PB’s).
How much does Little Athletics cost?
The cost varies from Centre to Centre. Many of our Centres structure their fees differently according to their operating costs and individual circumstances. Please contact your Centre to find out more information on their fees.
How do I register my child?
If your child would like to take part in Little Athletics, you need to register them with the local Centre. All Centres hold sign on days and we recommend that you contact your local Centre for this information.

Can my child try Little Athletics before joining?
Most Centres allow new families up to two (2) weeks trial period before having to commit to registering for the season.
What is expected of parents?
Little Athletics is a voluntary organisation, Centres cannot operate without the assistance of parents each week in fulfilling the many and varied duties required. These include helping at an event; managing an age group; recording results; working in the canteen; to name just a few. Most Centres have parent duty rosters. Additional assistance is always required on the Centre committees and all parents are encouraged to become involved. Little Athletics is one of the few sports where parents can become fully involved in their child’s sporting interests.
Do children need to wear a uniform?
All registered athletes must wear an approved Centre uniform when competing in Little Athletics competitions. A Centre representative will be able to tell you how much their uniforms cost.
Will my child be taught the correct technique or have access to coaching?
Little Athletics Queensland conducts development clinics and coaching clinics throughout the season. Most Centres also have qualified coaches or parents who offer training session/s during the week.
