Christine Anderson

Christine Anderson from Gold Coast Little Athletics is one of those people that no Centre can do without. She has spent half her lifetime involved in Little Athletics from Centre to Regional and State level.

Her involvement with Little Athletics started 34 years ago when she joined the Gold Coast Centre. Throughout her 29 years on the Committee, she has performed every Centre duty possible in all areas and has overseen much of the administration of the Centre.

Chris has been an integral part of the development of the South Coast Region and for many years was involved on the South Coast Regional Development Committee and spent time as the Regional Support Officer. Her experience has been invaluable to new committees of Centres within the South Coast Region. She held the position of Regional Recorder for South Coast Region for 29 years and over the years her experience has been called upon to facilitate recording and relay workshops in other Regions.

Chris’ biggest contribution to LAQ has been as a State Team Selector, a role she has enthusiastically held for an unprecedented 28 years. She has performed this role every year since 1997, making her the longest serving team selector in LAQ history, and most likely the entire country. Chris has also facilitated State Team Selector workshops for LAQ, which she felt was so important, not just to recruit new selectors, but to inform Centres of selection processes and criteria.

Chris was quite heavily involved as a state level recorder in her earlier years, at LAQ Championship events and carnivals.  She also served on several LAQ Committees and sub committees over the years. These committees assisted in Regional Centre development and her roles were to delivery advisory and consultancy assistance to Centres and Regional committees. Her knowledge and experience have been called upon by LAQ many times throughout her time with our sport.

For her unwavering commitment and service to LAQ at Centre, Region and State level over the past 34 years, Chris has received the LAQ Volunteer of the Year Award, Merit Award and Distinguished Merit Award and has been inducted into the Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame for her contribution to Little Athletics.

Chris has spent half her life contributing to the development of Little Athletics. Her involvement continues due to her undying passion to see young kids give it their best. Chis always remembers that our priority is the athletes collectively and in her own words, ‘we should always be there for the kids’.
