The LAQ 26/27 Competition calendar is in full swing!
From fun social competitions filled with friendships and PBs to competitive opportunities where athletes can test themselves against the best. We also run exciting team events through our relay competitions, with options across both track and field!
Here is a breakdown:
REGIONAL EVENTS
Regional Relays – November (Located in your Region)
The HART Regional Relays bring Clubs together in a fun, team-focused competition environment at a local venue. Athletes in the U7–U17 age groups compete in both track and field relay events, building teamwork, club pride and regional spirit.
Regional Championships – February (Located in your Region)
The HART Regional Championships provide a local, welcoming and competitive environment for all LAQ-registered athletes in the U7–U17 age groups. These Championships serve as the only official qualification event for the McDonald’s State Championships, giving athletes the opportunity to progress to the state level.
STATE EVENTS
State Relay Championships – December (QSAC)
One of the most anticipated events on the Little Athletics Queensland calendar, the McDonald’s State Relay Championships is a true celebration of teamwork and Club pride. This major LAQ event brings athletes together to compete in track and field relay teams.
State Combined Championships – January 2027 (QSAC)
Combined Event Championships is a highlight of the Little Athletics Queensland calendar, bringing together versatile athletes ready to test themselves across multiple disciplines. Designed for U9–U17 athletes, the Championships promote all-round development by encouraging participation in a wide range of events rather than early specialisation. The number of events per age group increases progressively to support athlete growth while reducing pressure on younger competitors.
State Championships – March 2027 (Townsville)
The McDonald’s State Championships is the final and most prestigious competition on the Little Athletics Queensland calendar. Across three exciting days, registered LAQ athletes from all corners of Queensland come together with one goal — to do their best and potentially become a State Champion in their chosen event. The atmosphere is electric, Club pride is on full display, and performances often reach their peak. The LAQ State team is selected at these Championships for U12 and U13 athletes, with performances playing a significant role in final team selection.
LAQ CARNIVALS
Coles Winter Carnival – June (Townsville)
The Coles Winter Carnival heads to the stunning Townsville Sports Precinct for a huge weekend of competition, colour and Club pride. Held on a premier all-weather track, this Carnival brings together LAQ registered athletes and non-LAQ athletes from across Queensland for two action-packed days of athletics, celebrating participation, performance, and community across all levels.
Coles Spring Carnival – September (Bundaberg)
The Coles Spring Carnival returns to Bundaberg for an exciting day of competition and fun, as Summer Season athletes gear up for the season ahead and Winter Season athletes wrap up their Centre competition programs. Open exclusively to Little Athletics Queensland (LAQ) registered U7–U17 athletes, this Carnival provides a valuable opportunity to gain additional competition experience in preparation for higher-level school competitions.
Coles Summer Series – October & November (Brisbane, QSAC)
The Coles Summer Carnival Series is designed to give all U9–U17 athletes the opportunity to experience their favourite events across two smaller, separate competition days—without the pressures of a large-scale competition or Championship event. Proudly delivered by Little Athletics Queensland, the focus is simple: fun, friendship, and great competition and experiences. Athletes of all abilities can enjoy the events while proudly representing their Club. Across both Series events, LAQ Club athletes earn points toward a single Competition Club Weighted Points Trophy, reinforcing team spirit and collective achievement.
